The 60-second read
- EOR: priced identically at $599. Deel lists broader reach and looser terms; Remote states a cleaner owned-entity model.
- Global Payroll: Remote publishes a price. Deel publishes broader coverage. The vendors disagree about each other's delivery model, so verify it.
- Contractors: Remote is cheaper at the entry tier. Deel has the deeper toolset. Protected tiers are priced the same at $325.
- Our read: there is no universal winner. Deel fits growing multi-country teams that mix employees and contractors; Remote fits narrower, EOR-led teams and those watching contractor cost per head. Pick a scenario below to see why.
First, three products that get blurred together
- Employer of Record (EOR). The provider is the legal employer in a country where you have no entity. It issues local contracts, runs payroll, withholds taxes, and provides statutory benefits. You direct the work.
- Global Payroll. You already have a legal entity and employees. The provider runs payroll and statutory filings. You remain the legal employer, so it is cheaper per head than EOR but carries entity obligations.
- Contractor Management. You contract directly with independent contractors; the platform handles agreements and payments. Classification risk stays with you. Contractor of Record (CoR) is the pricier alternative where the provider takes on the contracting relationship and, depending on the vendor and terms, some of the liability.
The costly mistakes are buying EOR for people who should be contractors, and using the cheapest contractor tier for people who work like employees. For the second one, read our guide to contractor misclassification in the US and Canada.

How we evaluated both platforms
We scored Deel and Remote on thirteen criteria grouped into six areas: pricing structure (EOR price, payroll transparency, contractor entry price, contract flexibility), country coverage (EOR reach, payroll reach, owned-entity clarity), contractor management (price and protection), compliance support, platform UX and integrations, and customer support and review-site ratings. Every score is drawn from the vendors' own published pricing and product pages, plus review-site data where noted. Where we could not confirm a claim, we say so in the claim ledger below rather than guess.
We did not run hands-on trials of either platform, and we have not been given non-public information by either vendor. That is a limitation, and it is why the scores are explained criterion by criterion and why you can change the weights to match your own priorities.
Step 1: Start from a scenario (or skip to your own numbers)
Step 2: Model your cost
Uses published list prices. It deliberately leaves out benefits, FX, deposits, taxes, and any negotiated discount, so treat it as the platform-fee layer only.
At list prices Remote is $200 a month ($2,400 over 12 months) cheaper.
Use your own quotes (edit prices)
Assumption: Deel does not list Global Payroll pricing on its pricing page; $29 is the starting figure from Deel's own comparison page and is a placeholder until you get a quote.
Step 3: Weight what matters to you
We scored each criterion from 1 to 5 using the vendors' own published information (our judgment, with the reasoning shown). Set how much each one matters to you from 0 to 5 and the result updates.

Criterion by criterion
1. Pricing structure
Headline EOR pricing is identical: both vendors list $599 per employee per month. The differences sit around the edges. Remote ties its EOR price to annual contracts, publishes no setup fees, and says a refundable reserve may apply in some cases. Deel states there is no long-term contract and that local compliance, payroll and benefits administration are included in the quoted EOR price; its refundable deposit is a point reviewers raise, so confirm the amount for your countries. Older third-party articles still quote Remote's EOR at $699, which no longer matches its pricing page.
For contractors, Remote's entry tier is $29 per month against Deel's $49. For payroll, Remote publishes $29 per employee per month, while Deel does not list a payroll price and quotes it. Neither structure is better in the abstract: published prices make early modeling easy, while quoted pricing can be negotiated at volume. Use the cost modeler above with your own quotes for the real number.
2. Country coverage
Coverage is where the vendors' stated numbers differ most, and where counts shift between pages on the same website. Deel's pricing page cites EOR in 130+ countries; its marketing pages cite 150+. Remote cites EOR in 90+ countries, contractor payments in 190+, and 70+ currencies. The count that matters is not the headline number but whether the specific countries on your 18-month plan are covered, with what entity model, and what onboarding time. A longer list helps if your plans are still evolving, which is the main reason Deel scores higher on reach.
3. Employer of Record
With an EOR you want three things: a legally compliant employment contract, a payroll that runs on time, and a clean exit if the relationship ends. Remote's clearest message is its entity model: it states that it employs through entities it owns and operates, with no third-party handoffs, and cites an average of three days to onboard once an employee completes self-enrollment. Deel cites its owned-entity network as well, a broader list of countries, and a workflow builder and Slack onboarding to automate the steps around the hire. The two are close enough on EOR fundamentals that coverage, terms, and support will likely decide it.
4. Global Payroll
Global Payroll is a different purchase: you already have a legal entity, and you want a provider to run payroll, filings and reporting across countries. Deel Global Payroll states 150+ countries, a single platform for employees, contractors and EOR workers, AI checks that flag anomalies before a run, and an optional managed model with a dedicated payroll manager. Remote Payroll states 100+ countries, integration with its HRIS and contractor tools, a published starting price of $29 per employee, and a one-time implementation fee; hourly employees are supported only in select markets. Because each vendor describes the other's delivery model differently, ask both which countries run on their own engine and which use local partners, and what the cutoff dates are.
5. Contractor Management and Contractor of Record
Contractor Management is the cheapest way to pay independent workers: you hold the contract and carry the classification risk. Contractor of Record is the protected version, in which the provider holds the contract. Both vendors list CoR at $325 per contractor per month. Remote adds a middle tier, Contractor Management Plus at $99, with indemnity of $100,000 per contractor up to $1M per company, and its CoR carries uncapped indemnity. Deel's contractor offering is broader on tooling: it highlights a worker classification tool, on-demand pay, a card for contractors, and automated invoicing across 150+ countries. If you manage a large contractor roster where classification risk is a real concern, read our guide to contractor misclassification and price the protected tier, not the entry tier.
6. Compliance support
Both vendors cite SOC 2 and ISO 27001 certifications and GDPR compliance. Remote emphasizes local legal experts, owned entities and Watchtower, a service that sends proactive alerts when labor laws change. Deel emphasizes a Compliance Hub for monitoring, an AI assistant that answers compliance questions using your workforce data, a classification tool, and an in-house team it describes as 200+ legal experts. Neither vendor guarantees outcomes, and both put the legal-employer responsibility on themselves for EOR workers only. Deel scores slightly higher in our matrix for the breadth of its tooling; Remote earns credit for a specific, easy-to-explain alert product.
7. Platform UX and integrations
Remote is consistently described as clean and simple, and that is a real advantage for small teams with no dedicated HR operations. Deel is described as powerful and broad, which is an advantage at scale, though that depth can take new users time to learn. On integrations, Deel cites 120-130+ pre-built connections (Workday, BambooHR, Greenhouse, NetSuite, QuickBooks, Xero, Slack) and certification as a Workday partner; Remote integrates with Workday, BambooHR and Greenhouse and offers an API and Zapier. If your finance stack is complex, the integration list is worth checking line by line.
8. Customer support
Deel states 24/7 support in 50+ languages across chat, email, phone, WhatsApp and Slack, with a dedicated customer success manager and an AI assistant. Remote states 24/5 live chat plus email, with weekend coverage by email. Neither publishes formal SLA terms, and reviewers on both platforms mention slower responses at peak payroll times or for complex cases. Support quality varies with plan, country and issue type, so ask each vendor for written response-time commitments before signing.
9. Review-site ratings
On G2, Deel is listed at roughly 4.7 and Remote at roughly 4.5, each on thousands of reviews. Capterra and Trustpilot ratings are also strong for both, with Deel typically a little higher. Ratings are a weak differentiator when both are this high, which is why we weight them lightly in the scenarios. Verify the live figures on each site, because they change.
Where each platform stands out
Deel stands out for the breadth of what it covers: the longest stated country lists for EOR, payroll and contractors, the widest range of products on one contract, a large integration catalog, 24/7 multilingual support, and deep compliance tooling. It is the stronger fit when you expect your hiring map and worker mix to keep changing. See Deel's current plans.
Remote stands out for a simple, clearly stated owned-entity EOR model, published prices for payroll and contractors, a clean interface, and a lower entry price for contractors. It is the stronger fit for a defined set of countries and for teams that value clarity and cost per head over breadth.

Eight questions to ask both vendors
Whoever answers these in writing, with country-level detail, is likely the safer partner. Vague answers are an answer.
- For each country on my 18-month plan, is the employing entity owned by you or provided by a partner?
- For each payroll country, is payroll run on your own engine or by a local partner? What is the cutoff date?
- What is the all-in monthly cost per worker type, including benefits administration, FX and any add-ons?
- Is a deposit or reserve required, how much, and under what conditions is it returned?
- What are the minimum term, notice period, and exit fees if I leave?
- What indemnity does the contractor product provide, what is the cap, and what is excluded?
- How do I move employees to or from your platform if my strategy changes?
- Who is my named contact, and what are your support SLAs in my time zones?
Final analyst verdict
- Choose Deel if you expect your country list to grow, employ both employees and contractors, and want one contract and one platform. You are paying for reach and consolidation.
- Choose Remote if your plan is mostly EOR in a defined set of countries, you want a plainly stated owned-entity model, or contractor cost per head drives your budget.
- Run a bake-off if payroll is the main purchase. The coverage claims conflict, and the written answers to the questions above are the real differentiator.
Frequently asked questions
Is Deel or Remote better for hiring employees internationally?
On published EOR pricing they are level: both list $599 per employee per month. The difference is reach and terms. Deel's pricing page cites EOR in 130+ countries and no long-term contract; Remote cites 90+ countries on annual contracts and states that every entity is owned. Which matters more depends on your country list.
What is the difference between EOR, Global Payroll, and Contractor Management?
EOR: the provider is the legal employer in a country where you have no entity. Global Payroll: you already have an entity and employees, and the provider runs payroll and filings. Contractor Management: you contract with independent contractors and the platform handles agreements and payments, while classification risk stays with you unless you buy a Contractor of Record service.
Which is cheaper for contractors?
Remote's published entry tier is lower ($29 vs. $49 per contractor per month). Both list Contractor of Record at $325. Remote's Contractor Management Plus ($99) adds capped indemnity. The cheaper tier only makes sense for genuinely independent contractors.
Does Remote use third-party partners for payroll?
Sources conflict. Deel's comparison page says Remote pays through in-country partners in roughly 60 countries. Remote says its payroll is in-house across 100+ countries (May 2025). We could not verify either independently, so ask for country-by-country delivery in writing.
Can I switch later?
Yes, but moving an EOR employee means a new employment contract, benefits enrollment, and carried-over leave with the new legal employer. Plan on several weeks per country.
